SUNLU Filadryer S1 VS S2

SUNLU Filament Dryer

SUNLU, the Zhuhai, China-based 3D printing products company, prides itself on providing the best for its customers. Part of this service ethos, SUNLU developed the Filadryer S1. It was designed to remove moisture from your wet filaments and restore its print quality. A few years later, SUNLU came out with the upgraded Filadryer S2.

When the PLA filament gathers moisture, its quality decreases, causing stringing, poor adhesion, and layer shift. The result is poor print quality and a mediocre print result. Remove the moisture and you get a much improved print quality. To address this problem, SUNLU has produced two types of dryers, the first model S1, and the upgraded S2. In this article, we will look at the attributes of both dryers.

SUNLU Filadryer S1

SUNLU’s first filament dryer box product was the Filadryer S1. It is square-shaped and has a white base and a transparent top that prevents dust accumulation. The drying box features a 2-inch LCD screen where you can view the drying time. It is designed with dual temperature probes that measure the heating plate and the cabinet temperature. With the control buttons, you can program the dryer heating time and other settings to suit your particular needs. The S1 can accommodate PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU, Wood, and Carbon filaments. The S1 comes with an exquisite packaging design that you’ll love.

      Features and Specifications

The S1 is easy to start and it heats up fast and even. It’s dimensions are 271 mm x 100 mm x 237 mm. It has an adjustable temperature range between 35-55°C that you can choose based on the ambient temperature. It has an input power level of 50/60hz or AC 100V-240V. The S1 can accommodate the standard filament diameters 1.75mm, 2.85mm, and 3mm. The filament spool’s maximum width is 8 cm, and the maximum spool height is 21 cm. It can hold up to 1 kg or one roll of filament and can also hold two rolls of 0.5 kg filaments. The default continuous drying time is six hours, and you can manually set it for other drying times.

      Observations

The SUNLU S1 is a solid product. One drawback to its design is that the square corners tend to hold lower heat, causing a longer drying time. Despite this, it is well suited for small business entrepreneurs or hobbyists. If your business is a bit bigger, the longer drying time the S1 takes to finish dehydrating may hinder your business. Someone who needs the dried filament sooner may need a dry box that can do the job quicker. The significant advantage of the S1 is that it is easy to use. Another redeeming feature is its ultra quiet design, which won’t disturb your work space with excessive noise while it is working.

      SUNLU Filadryer S2

The upgraded version of the SUNLU dry box is the S2. It has many more enhanced features than the earlier S1 dryer. Several of the basic drying features, like layer adhesion, are improved. The circular design distributes heat more efficiently, without cold pockets, and the rotating spool holder allows easier access. Its larger touch screen will enable you to make personalized temperature settings rather than preset times. This larger 3D dryer can also accommodate more 3D printer material types, such as PA and PC, than the earlier S1 dryer. It also uses the same filament diameters 1.75mm, 2.85mm, 3.00mm as the S1 model.

          Features and Specifications

The SUNLU S2 has a radically different design than the S1 model. It is circular to allow for 360° heating. The environment temperature is 20℃ – 35℃, the relative humidity comes in at ≤90%, and the temperature range of 35 °C – 70 °C offering a higher heating temperature. It has a faster dry time than the earlier version, and the larger LCD touch screen can display temperature and drying time more clearly. You can also customize your drying settings for different filament types. The screen size is 3.43” x 2.87”. Its dimensions are 265 mm x 274 mm x 118 mm, a maximum capacity of φ210*85, and a net weight of 1190 g. The input power is 50/60hz or AC 100V-240V, and its maximum working power is 48W.

          Observations

For the small-time entrepreneur who doesn’t need all the enhanced features, the S2 may be overkill. The S2 is also more expensive than the S1, though it still sells at a great price. This is an excellent product for a large 3D printing company because it can handle a wider range of materials and has a much faster drying capability.

          SUNLU S1 or S2?

S1 or S2, which 3D filament dryer box is best? Many will appreciate the S1 for its simple basic design. It is well suited for the small-time 3D printer entrepreneur. In this situation, the S2 may be overly complicated, with unnecessary features.

On the other hand, the S2 would be appreciated by larger printing operations using a broader range of materials and printing a larger volume of 3D models. In this setting, the enhanced features would be a welcome advantage to help with the different material settings and speed up the dry time. No matter which version you choose, you can be assured to get a quality product to enhance your 3D printing experience.
